This great article in Business Solutions last month featured biometrics and its contributions to the time and attendance tracking field. I wish I’d seen this before writing my article! It says it all, but better:
Biometrics is one of the hottest trends in workforce management. “As biometrics become increasingly prevalent in our daily lives [e.g. grocery checkout, ATMs, personal electronics, etc.], companies and employees are becoming more accepting of biometrics in the workplace,” explains Accu-Time’s DiMaria. There are many biometric technologies such as facial, iris, voice recognition, and hand punch systems; however, fingerprint biometrics has emerged as the most popular choice for most workforce management vendors.
I’m now inspired to write a tech piece on privacy issues that biometrics are raising! As well, this article claims that fingerprint biometrics are the most popular, but my reading tells me that handpunch (a terrible name for a system that basically reads the shape of your hand) is a far more accurate and sustainable solution.
